Along with our regular activity in promoting close engagement through discussion, debate and education with the ‘reasons for the hope that is within us’, Dominicans have always and everywhere had a close involvement in Christian Social Action and in the search for and promotion of Justice and Peace.
Members of the Bristol Fraternity were instrumental in setting up and running the Clifton Refugee Sponsorship Scheme, a group associated with the Clifton Roman Catholic diocese and cathedral in Bristol who were able to sponsor a family of refugees from the wars in the Middle East.
Within the city of Bristol among many other activities members of the Fraternity have been regularly involved with other projects of social action and engagement, such as the Bristol Street Pastors (streetpastors.org/locations/bristol/) and Emmaus Bristol (www.emmausbristol.org.uk/), the charity that works to help homeless people in turning their lives around.
In this last year, 2024, we have committed to supporting our Bristol University Catholic Chaplaincy, fostering contacts with students and giving a series of talks based on our members’ expertise.
The Fraternity sponsors, together with the University of Bristol, an annual public Aquinas Lecture with a series of distinguished speakers such as Professor Denys Turner and most recently Professor Terry Eagleton.
