THINKING FAITH 2025 – Why Leo?

Thinking Faith is a week-long summer retreat at Boarbank Hall, Cumbria, for working-age Catholics in need of a break! It runs from 26th July to 2nd August 2025. Boarbank Hall is near Grange-over-Sands, overlooking Morecambe Bay. Thinking Faith was started 20 years ago by Sr Margaret Atkins OSA with assistance from former members of the Lay Community of Blackfriars, Cambridge and several Dominican Friars. The retreat is aimed at working age Catholics who want to thoughtfully discuss their faith with fellow Catholics in a beautiful part of the country.

This year’s theme is “Why Leo?” and will be an exploration of Pope Leo XIV, his interests and background. Topics will include St Augustine and his Rule, the AI revolution, and Leo XIII and Rerum Novarum. The week will be led by Sr Margaret together with Fr Richard Finn OP (Blackfriars, Oxford) and Fr Ian Wilson OSA (Santa Monica, Rome).

The week will include daily Mass and Office with the community of sisters, shared meals, talks and discussion, social time and the opportunity for a long (or shorter) walk on the Cumbrian fells. Sr Margaret has recorded a short video describing the Thinking Faith week and extending a warm invitation to all.
