Leader           The Word once became Flesh

and still comes to dwell amongst us.

To our sadness he brings joy,

to our pain he brings healing,

to our darkness he brings light.

A candle is lit.

Then, the youngest person present reads from the Gospel according to Luke.

Reading        While they were in Bethlehem, the time came for Mary to have her child, her first-born. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger because there was no welcome for them at the inn. (Lk 2:6-7)

Remember in silent or spoken prayer

the members of your family, your friends and neighbours

together with all

who will spend Christmas alone or hungry or in pain or in need.

Leader           Holy God, in the birth of Jesus Christ

            heaven and earth embrace

            and a new creation begins.

Bless this home and all who live within it.

Fill them with the love of Christ,

and inspire them to share that love with all.

We ask this through the same Christ our Lord.

All                   AMEN.
