Ian William Gardner was a leading member of the Oxford Lay Dominicans before many of us joined but we have been praying for him regularly. Ian made a significant contribution to our Order.

Ian’s spiritual name was Br Reginald. He was admitted into the Oxford Fraternity in 1960, temporarily professed in 1961 and permanently professed in 1964. He served our Fraternity as President 1992-96 and 1999-2002, as Treasurer 2002-8 and 2011-14 and as Secretary 2008-11. He was Provincial President 2001-7. In addition he was an active member of Dominican Peace Action along with Anna Baidoun and Toni Lacey, Editor of Veritas and an Archivist of the Lay Dominicans.

Ian and his first wife were part of the Oxford Blackfriars 9:30 Congregation but he subsequently moved house and worshipped at his parish church, Holy Rood in Hinsley, Oxford. His Funeral will take place there on Wednesday, 5th August at 2 pm followed by burial at Kennington Cemetery.
