Las Casas and His World
This lecture, entitled ‘Las Casas and his World: the Defender of the Indians in Context’, is by Fernando Cervantes, Bristol University. Fernando is also a Lay Dominican, Bristol Fraternity. The lecture was delivered at the Las Casas Institute and is now available on their YouTube channel.
Dominican Seminar 2023
This year’s seminar took place from 17-19 March, at Hinsley Hall in Leeds. The seminar was attended by many branches of the Dominican family – friars, sisters, Lay Dominicans, the Priestly Fraternity, the Secular Institute and Associates. The theme was Being Prophetic: Reading the Signs of the Times and Being a Sign for the Time.

Inaugural Human Rights Lecture at the Las Casas Institute
The Lecture, entitled ‘Las Casas and his World: the Defender of the Indians in Context’, will take place at Blackfriars, Oxford at 5.00pm on 23rd March. The lecture will also be livestreamed. The lecture is by Fernando Cervantes, Bristol University. Fernando is also a Lay Dominican, Bristol Fraternity.

This book is edited by Eleanor Giraud and Christian Leitmeir. Christian is a Lay Dominican, a member of the Oxford Fraternity.

Ted Bachell RIP
Ted Bachell was a member of the London Fraternity for many years, and he will also be known to people across the province from his regular attendance at the Seminar and the Assembly, although his health has meant that he has not been able to attend in recent years. A new history of the English Province of the Friars Preachers by fr. Richard Finn OP, Blackfriars, Oxford, will be published in March. There is more information in the attached flyer, together with a discount if the book is ordered before the end of February 2024.
